Talk About It

Let’s talk about opioid use and harm reduction.

Save a Life

More People are dying from opioids than ever before.

Medications for opioid use disorder – like buprenorphine and methadone – decrease a person’s chance of death.

The Emergency Department (ED) can start people on buprenorphine (Suboxone) and methadone, but most people don’t know this. Also, for doctors in the ED, these are new medications.

How You Can Help!

The research team has interviewed doctors and people with lived experience with opioid disorder, including many who have tried buprenorphine and methadone, and many who are in recovery. Together with these stakeholders and other community members we have developed Talk About It, a conversation aid to get people talking.

We highly value the perspectives of individuals who are willing to contribute their insights to the development of our intervention. If you are interested in providing feedback, we would be happy to arrange a 30-60 minute Zoom or phone interview at your convenience. As a thank you, we offer a $25 gift card for either Amazon or your local supermarket for your participation. Additionally, if you are interested, we invite you to join our Steering Committee and offer ongoing feedback throughout our program's development.

Get Involved.

We’d love to chat! But first, we need some information from you.

This research is being led by Emergency Department doctors from Baystate Medical Center.

Initial funding was provided by Baystate Medical Center, and ongoing funding is via an R34 from NIDA (National Institute of Drug Addiction) - link

In addition to former patients and people with lived experience (PWLE) of opioid use disorder and use of MOUD, our Steering Committee is composed of members from the following organizations. Committee members bring the resources and perspectives of their organization to the project.
